Retro TV Tutorial in PS CS3

Step1:

Open a new trasparent image/layer size 500 x 400 pixels. You can choose whatever size you want just as long you have enough space for the object you are going to create.

Step2:

Now you are going to select the Rectangle Tool. And choose the color for your tv. I chose Blue. Start making a regular size square.

Step3:

Next we are going to shape the square into a “retro” looking tv. To do that we go to Edit > Transform > Warp. With the Warp Tool start warping the four corners of the blue square. Like the in the capture image:

Step4:

Now let’s put a White Outline to the tv. Go to Layers > Layer Style > Stroke. For the settings put: Size 5, Position Inside, Blend Mode Normal, Opacity 100, and Color White. Next let’s give it a shadow glare. Go to Layers > Layer Style > Gradient Overlay. For the gradient let’s pick two colors: Blue and Light Grey. Settings: Blend Mode Normal, Opacity 12, Style Angle, Angle 121, and Scale 100. It will look like the capture image:

Step5:

Next we are going to make the tv screen. Let’s make a small Black Square. To do that go to the Rectangle Tool and pick the Rounded Rectangle Tool Shape. Put the Black small square inside the tv, in the middle. Like the capture image:

Step6:

And now we are going to give it an outline and a shadow glare also(to make it look like a real tv). Again go to Layers > Layer Style > Stroke. Settings: Size 3, Position Inside, Blend Mode Normal, Opacity 100, and Color White. And for the shadow glare Layers > Layer Style > Gradient Overlay. Settings: Gradient Colors Black and White, Blend Mode Normal, Opacity 15, Style Radial, Angle 120, and Scale 100. Looks like this:

Step7:

Now we are going to give the tv some feet(classical part for a retro tv). Go to the Pen Tool for this one. For the color pick Black and make cone shaped feet, like in the capture image. And then put the outlines on them(follow steps 4 and 6 for this if you haven’t already learned how to do this).

Step8:

Ok now we are going to create the antenna part. For the bottom part of the antenna, let’s make a half oval shape. For this use the Pen Tool and choose the color Black for it. Place it on top of the tv. And then we are going to make the rabbit ears antenna. Choose Grey for the Color. For this let’s go to the Rectangle Tool and choose the Line Tool. For the Size 5px. Start making two thin Rectangles. And then make two small Grey Circles and place them just on top of the two Rectangles you just made. For this again go to the Rectangle Tool and pick the Elipse Tool. And so far it will look like this:

Step9:

Ok we are almost done. All we need are the buttons! This is fairly easy to do. Go to the Elipse Tool and make three small Grey color Circles of the same size. Place the circles in a vertical position on the right side of the tv. Make a White Outline for the first circle(this would be the power button). And we’re done! Save it in PNG Format if you want a transparent background, or in JPEG if you want a white backgound. Or in PSD Format if you ever want to make future changes to it.

Now we’ve made a Blue Retro TV!!

Red Marker Tutorial in PS CS3

Step1:
Open a new trasparent image/layer size 500 x 400 pixels. You can choose whatever size you want just as long you have enough space for the object you are going to create.

Step2:
Now you are going to select the rectangle tool. And choose the color for your marker. I chose red.
Start making a nice long rectangle, not to thin and not to wide. Just like the one I made in the capture
image.

Step3:
Great now let’s move on to the next step which is creating the top and bottom parts of the marker. To do this you go to the pen tool. Begin by chosing another color to help make contrast with the color of the marker. I chose white. Now with the pen tool start making two triangular shapes but without the point of a typical triangle. One for the top part and the other for the bottom part of the marker.
Just like I did in the capture image.

Then make the second part of the top part, again with the pen tool if you like or you can use the rectangle tool for this one. Make a small square shape. See the capture image.

Step4:
Ok now moving on to the next step, we are going to make the tip of the marker. Again choose your color. Mine is red of course. Go to the polygon tool and make a triangle shape.
See the capture image.

Step5:
Now we’re going to make the shadows for the marker. Let’s go to the red rectangle shape we created first and select the Gradient Overlay. Let’s choose two colors for the shading. I chose red and white. (always try to choose one color that matches the original color of the object you are making) For the gradient settings I chose these:
Opacity = 27 Angle = 180 Scale = 50. Blend mode = normal and Style = linear.

Of course you can choose other settings if you’d like. See the capture image.

Now we’re going to make the other shadows for the top and bottom parts, and the marker tip. Again same steps: Gradient Overlay and choose two new colors. I chose black and white. For top part 1, the settings I chose are: Opacity = 35 Angle = 180 Scale = 60. Blend mode = normal and Style = linear. For top part 2, the settings I chose are:
Opacity = 35 Angle = 180 Scale = 40. Blend mode = normal and Style = linear. For the bottom part,
Opacity = 35 Angle = 180 Scale = 80. Blend mode = normal and Style = linear.

Now for the marker tip I chose two new colors for the gradient: a darker red  and a bit lighter red. (I chose a darker red for the tip because as you know a real marker tip is always darker looking than the real color.) For the Gradient settings: Opacity = 100 Angle = 180 Scale = 100. Blend mode = normal and Style = linear.

Step6:
Ok we’re almost done now. Now we’re going to make the outlines for the marker. (this can be an option) Let’s go the Stroke Layer option and choose the black color. For every shape(except the red rectangle shape) start making the outlines black.
For the settings: Size = 1 Position = inside Blend mode = normal and Opacity = 100. For the red rectangle shape just change the setting size to 2.

Step7:
Last step. Now we’re going to make the sticker label for the marker. (this can also be an optional step)
Let’s select the polygon tool and choose the elipse tool. Choose another color. I chose black.
Let’s make an oval like shape over the marker, right in the middle. Just like we did before for the other shapes make the shadow. Same procedure: Gradient Overlay, settings: Opacity = 35 Angle 180 Scale = 100 Blend mode = normal and Style = linear.

Then make the outline, same procedure: Stroke Layer, settings: Size = 2 Position = outside
Blend Mode = normal Opacity = 100.

And last, let’s give it some text. Select the text tool and choose a font you like and type the text over the sticker label you just created. Type a random word for the marker, I simply chose the word “Marker” (try not to choose a word that already may have a copyright trademark) And we’re done!
